Gavin filming underground tunnels in the Sahara for the BBC Human Planet series

Gavin Newman is one of the world?s leading cave divers and an Emmy award winning film maker / photographer to boot.

Gavin says:  "Caves offered the ultimate photographic studio and a chance to capture images of a world that few get to see. Diving followed and ultimately combined into cave diving and the chance to explore and document some of the worlds last truly unexplored places."

His passion for photography, caving and diving led to several film projects.  He's also a committed environmentalist and has filmed for Greenpeace.

He won an 'Award of Excellence' from the Guild of Television Cameramen for his cave filming work on the
BBC's iconic 'Planet Earth' series.  And he scooped the television equivalent of an Oscar with an EMMY award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for Best Cinematography in a Natural History Documentary  Series for his work on the BBC series 'Wild China'.


Film



Gavin filming on his most recent project in a Sarawak Chamber in Mulu with a cave swift sat on his helmet!  Gavin's talk will be a photographic and video history of his 25-year-cave filming career. 

He'll use extended film clips from the various productions he's worked on including Planet Earth, Wild China and Derbsyshire's Titan cave to tell the behind-the-scenes stories of these incredible shoots. 

And you'll get a sneak preview of his latest film shot in Mulu which is still in production.

His illustrated lecture will then be followed by:

Into Darkness (15 mins)
Into Darkness goes beneath the surface to reveal the fantastic underworld universe of caves. Follow a group of cavers, who push through impossibly small passages to access some of the final frontiers on earth.
