Young Adventurers - Extreme Mountain Biking - 10.30am Saturday 2nd November

Live Demo Young Adventurers
Extreme Mountain Biking

24-year-old multiple British trials bike champion Danny Butler has been riding trials bikes - with or without an engine - since he was six years old.  His favourite place to ride is the rocks of the Peak District's Roaches.

Danny got into trials through his Dad, who was riding motorcycle trials when he was really young.  He rode for Gas Gas youth trials team as a kid but a few "rather large" accidents made him move to the push bike.  He says his proudest achievement was winning both sets of British Championships in 2009, or his European Championship victory. Last year he says it was breaking back into the finals at the World Cups no easy thing to do.

Danny now travels round the country with his Extreme Mountain Bike Show demonstrating his team's hair-raising skills on two wheels.

Last year Danny wowed our young audience with his on-stage antics.  This year one of his intrepid team of top stunt mountain-bikers will be bringing their bike along to Buxton to show off their tricks.

You can follow Danny on twitter @dannybutler1986

Following our Extreme Mountain Biking demo we'll show a series of the best films from the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival's sell-out Young Adventurers' screening.

The speakers and films have been selected mainly with primary school age in mind but we're confident that they will also be enjoyed by older children and adults too.

Lily Shreds Trailside

MtnRanks.com?s four-legged mascot, Jack Russell terrier Lily, hugs the back wheel of her two wheeled master on their local Utah trailside bike park.  You can see why this short went viral.  Lily even has her own facebook page!

All I Can - Imagination

Catching a bus never looked so cool.  Freestyle skier extraordinaire JP Auclair?s continuous downhill urban ski run on dirty slush and concrete is glorious ski porn with a deeper message about the challenges of global climate change.  (See if you can spot his snapped ski tip!).  Winner of 2013 Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Best Short Film Award.

Kilian Martin: Altered Route
One of the most creative riders on the scene, Spanish skateboarder Kilian Martin explores an abandoned family fun park in the Mojave Desert.  Brought to life by film-maker Brett Novak with archive Super8 footage of happier times gone by and an atmospheric soundtrack, Martin's dance-like technique and astonishing board control make this short a real work of art.  Winner of 2013 Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Best Short Film (Silver).

Gravicity

Paragliding film-maker Jean-Baptiste Chandelier (check out his flying in 'Light Line') turns the camera on his friend, top climber Manu Romain in this short about city climbing (aka 'buildering') in Briancon.  Manu say his aim was to promote his sport in an urban playground.

On Thin Sea Ice 2

Monday to Friday he's a 48 year old Norwegian paint factory worker.  In his spare time Tor Eckhoff is a film maker?and human seal.

Of Souls & Water: The Shapeshifter

The supernatural? does it exist? The curious explore unbound by restrictions of place and mind, and perhaps discover things we haven?t understood. Whitewater kayaking legend Ben Marr shreds the upper reaches of Quebec, pushing limits to new and undiscovered levels.  Winner of 2013 Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Best Artistic Film Award.

Silvia - Winter Trails with Matt Hunter
Canadian big mountain free rider Matt Hunter gets creative with a power drill in his shed to go and shred his local trails on studded tyres in the snow. Possibly the coolest night ride ever? (PS Before you get any ideas they got tyre studding expertise from GP Moto!)

The Pursuit Of Excellence

Australian pro athlete Glen Thurston, one of the world?s most fearless and skillful big wave bodyboarders, pulls amazing 360s and barrel rolls getting more air between board and water than seems humanly possible.

Wanna Ride
Francois Bon (aka 'Faf') is one of the pioneers of speed-riding (a combination of paragliding and skiing) and France is its spiritual home.  In the decade since developing this new extreme sport Bon's achieved numerous firsts including flying the North Face of the Eiger.  In this intoxicating short Bon and fellow Zag athlete Maxence Cavalcade perform an aerial duet on the slopes of Les Arcs and Val D'Isere.

Split Of A Second
?I feel bad because I know my mom and dad worry?that at some point, it will all go wrong? It?s a choice I?ve made, making people who care about me worry.?  Norwegian BASE jumper Espen Fadness contemplates the risks and rewards of flying through the air in a squirrel suit at 100mph.

Extreme Czech Parkour
Urban gymastics from the Czech pro parkour team Urban Sense.  Hair-raising jumps, long-distance leaps, synchronised flips and dance-like duets to a hip-hop orchestral soundtrack make this classy short seem more like ballet than free running.

Film programme subject to change / addition.
