After an introduction by Claire Maxted, editor of Trail Running magazine, Rosie will talk about her remarkable journey of more than 20,000 miles taking more than five years to cross Europe, Russia, Asia, Alaska, North America, Greenland, Iceland before heading back into the UK.

Her international best-selling book 'Just a Little Run Around the World' is Rosie's understated, heart-rending account of the resilience of the human spirit to passionately take hold of a noble dream, then triumph over every adversity in life, including the death of the love of her life to make it a reality.

In 2002 Rosie (then 57 years old) set off from Wales with nothing but a small backpack of food and equipment, funded by the rent from her little cottage, to raise money in memory of her husband who had died of cancer.

Followed by wolves, knocked down by a bus, confronted by bears, chased by a naked man with a gun and stranded with severe frostbite, on a good day she would run 30 miles, on a bad day she would only manage 500 yards, digging herself out of the snow at minus 62 degrees celsius, moving her cart inches at a time.

Every inch, every mile, was a triumph and a celebration of life.  53 pairs of shoes later Rosie arrived home to jubilant crowds in Tenby, Wales.

Rosie's other remarkable achievements include:
  • Riding over 3,000 miles on horseback across South America from the Atacama Desert to Patagonia.
  • Setting a Record-breaking solo transatlantic voyage in a small 17-foot boat.
  • Running 27 marathons in 27 days across the UK.
  • Twice completing the 150 mile Marathon des Sables across the Sahara.
"Everyone was so happy they came to hear her speak. I recommend anyone and everyone to go to one of her talks. If you?re needing inspiration in your life, then this is one place where you will definitely find it." Run and Become Running Store, March 2013

Rosie is supported by and would like to thank Derbyshire based specialist tent and camping accessories company Terra Nova Equipment and sleeping bag, down jacket and extreme clothing designers PHD Mountain Software.

Following Rosie's talk we'll show...

In October 2013, South African scuba instructor Dave Chamberlain departed Walvis Bay, Namibia on a 2700km-unsupported run. On a liquid only diet and running with a pram containing a tent and sleeping bag amongst other things. Dave entered Port Elizabeth, South Africa after four continuous months of running.

Australian Photographer and filmmaker Morgan Cardiff documented four weeks of his run, through the Southern Namibian Desert and into the Northern Cape of South Africa. Battling extreme temperatures, water scarcity and a few local wildlife encounters, the film looks at the inspiration and drivers behind such a project and takes you on a visual journey through the oldest desert on the planet.

The race info on Celtman's website warns:  "Celtman! is a long distance EXTREME Triathlon."

"Please take note - this race is HARD. The distances are Ironlike and the terrain severe."

"You will be expected to complete a (cold) sea-loch swim, an arduous road cycle including 200M of climbing and a mountainous run."

"This will require endurance, stamina, great bike handling skills and off-road running experience. You will also require a support crew."

In the spirit of the World's toughest triathlons Norseman, Swissman and Celtman - the Scottish edition follows Greek athlete Leuteris Paraskeuas as he tackles the beauty and challenges of this epic event comprising a 3.8km swim in Loch Shieldaig, running 42km over two Munros finishing with a 202km ride on incredible Highland roads.
