Round-the-world in an evening with Sarah Outen

ADVENTURER Sarah Outen MBE spent over four years rowing, cycling and kayaking 25,000 miles around the globe on her London2London: Via the World expedition.
On 15th June 2016, Sarah will take to the Buxton Adventure Festival stage to tell the story of extreme conditions and remote environments as she navigated the northern hemisphere entirely under her own steam.
After setting off in April 2011, Sarah encountered a typhoon on the North Pacific, which forced a mid-ocean rescue from her rowing boat, as well as a hurricane on the Atlantic after 143 days at sea. She kayaked some of the most treacherous waterways in the world and cycled across North America during one of the harshest winters on record.
After the extraordinary journey that took two more years than planned – with success anything but a certainty – Sarah cycled and kayaked the final leg from Falmouth to London, paddling under Tower Bridge in November 2015.
She will be joined at the Buxton Adventure Festival by Justine Curgenven, who will talk about her many adventures as an award winning adventure filmmaker and expedition sea kayaker – including a trip to the Aleutian Islands with Sarah.
Justine’s programmes have aired on the National Geographic Channel, Channel 4, Channel 5 and the BBC. They have won over a dozen prestigious prizes, including best adventure film at Banff and Kendal Mountain Film Festivals.
Her film, Kayaking the Aleutians, will be shown at the event. It follows Sarah and Justine’s 2,500km journey along the archipelago between Russia and Alaska. The pair spent 101 days in one of the world’s windiest and roughest environments, got swept away by strong currents, pounded by rough seas and approached by bears.
The Buxton Adventure Festival will be at the Buxton Opera House Pavilion Arts Centre, in the heart of the Peak District, at 7:30pm on Wednesday, 15th June 2016.
