Lissa Cook from Sheffield Adventure Film Festival said:  "There's obviously a growing appetite for running films.  Last year 'Unbreakable: The Western States 100' won our Grand Prize, sold out and we had to put on another screening.  This year The Dragon's Back premiere and Q&A has already exceeded the screening room capacity.  Thanks to the Showroom Cinema for letting us move to an even bigger screen.  What we're especially proud of is that the filmmaker, Rich Heap, is from Sheffield.  This is testament to the vibrancy of the Sheffield and Peak District running scene."

The Film Premiere

The legendary Dragon’s Back Race™ follows the mountainous spine of Wales for 320 kilometres with 17,000 metres of ascent across wild, trackless, remote and mountainous terrain.

The original Dragon’s Back Race™ happened just once before in 1992 and ever since, it has been whispered about with a mix of awe and trepidation. In September 2012 this truly epic event returned and proved once again that it is one the hardest mountain races in the World. Award winning camerman and filmmaker Rich Heap was on hand to capture the event and has produced a film which will premiere at ShAFF on Saturday March 2nd at 20.45

The Q&A

Join Steve Birkinshaw, Helene Whitaker, Rob Baker and Shane Ohly for a Q&A session immediately after the film finishes.   Steve Birkinshaw won the Dragon's Back Race in 2012 and is one of Britain's most accomplished endurance mountain runners.

Helene Whitaker (alongside Martin Stone) won the original 1992 Dragon's Back Race and astounded many by finishing 4th overall - and first woman - twenty years later in the 2012 race.  Rob Baker came second at the 2012 Dragons Back Race and is a top road and mountain runner.  Shane Ohly was the organiser of the Dragon's Back Race.  (Photo of Rob courtesy of Shane Ohly).
