Ryan Doyle Travel Story (42 mins)

Freerunning and parkour athlete Ryan Doyle has been on a worldwide mission to travel the globe.  From Liverpool’s Docks to the Great Wall of China via Italy, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, India and Jordan, Ryan sets out to discover whether or not the most iconic landmarks on the planet make good freerunning spots.

Red Bull Rampage 2012 (53 mins)

Unforgiving, scary, treacherous - and the best event of the year for freeride mountain bikers. From the building to the buildup, watch Gee Atherton push his limits and find out what it takes to really make this event happen.

Like this?  Why not make a weekend of it.   Over at the Showroom Cinema there are five more screens packed with the world’s best adventure sports films including Red Bull’s freeride mountain bike epic ‘Where the Trail Ends’ and freerunning films ‘The Forgotten Athletes’, ‘Extreme Czech Parkours’ and ‘Goodbye Cambridge’.

Ryan Doyle on Travel Story premiering at ShAFF“I can’t wait to get up there to Sheffield.  I’m quite honoured to be involved.  I’m not going to be able to understand what it’s going to do for me and the parkour community until the film’s released.  I’m a bag of nerves!”

Ryan on freerunning around the world:  “What I’ve noticed around the world is that all the parkour athletes have their own style which is a cause and effect of the background they grew up.  It’s very difficult to judge who’s doing it right and who’s doing it wrong because it’s an art.  It’s like saying what’s the best song in the world?  They’re never be a right answer – it’s just personal preference.  Every time I go somewhere I find someone different who’s tuned to that environment they were brought up in.”

“When you do the [Red Bull] Art of Motion tournament you are just expressing yourself through movement – your life and how you’ve been perceiving obstacles.  It’s quite beautiful when you see them just go and explode – they just switch off and are in the moment and having fun with it and it looks so cool.”  (Want to know more about parkour?  Check out Ryan's Airborn Academy).

Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Director Matt Heason on Cityscape Cinema:  “Ever since plans were announced for an amphitheatre just across the road from ShAFF’s home at the Showroom Cinema I’d hoped we could put on a really special event there.  We’re delighted Red Bull are helping us make that dream a reality.  The Cityscape Cinema promises to be an unforgettable evening.

“From our point of view it’s a great partnership - ShAFF’s growing in popularity every year.  Red Bull has gained a reputation for producing extremely high quality adventure films.  Their sponsorship programme enables a huge range of extreme sports athletes to fulfil their talent.”

About Ryan Doyle
His creative free running movements combined with a martial arts background has made him a national tricking champion ('06, '07, '09). He also won the first official international free running event: Red Bull – Art of Motion in Vienna in 2007.  Unfortunately, right at his moment of triumph, Ryan broke his leg when he missed the landing mat from a 12ft jump in the final. He now has a 33cm bar held on to his leg with 14 screws as a permanent reminder.  But you can't hold a good free runner down, and Ryan is back in action, back in competition and touring the world with his jaw-dropping skills.  Read more about Ryan.
