It's a wrap: adventure film festivals galore
Fans of outdoor adventure films should have their diaries handy – the Banff Mountain Film Festival’s UK tour kicks off this month, and if it doesn’t come to a venue near you, put the weekend-long Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (9-11 March) on the calendar instead.
Banff Mountain Film Festival kicks off in Edinburgh on 27 January, moves down through the UK reaching London on 21-24 February and goes west finishing in Cardigan on 10 March. The films vary for every venue, but each promises to be entertaining and exciting.
The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) line-up is looking cracking and a new trailer has just been released to whet our appetites (see below).
Films showing on ShAFF’s four screens will feature everything from kayaking, climbing, bouldering and mountaineering to skateboarding, skiing and boarding to surfing in Finland and highlining over Yosemite Falls.
“I’m really excited about this year’s programme,” says the festival director Matt Heason. “Climbing films are traditionally strong but this year the ski and snowboard films have blown me away. We’ve also created a new virals prize category to reflect the huge increase in popularity of video sharing
“We’ll soon be ready to announce our programme of talks and lectures on epic climbs, runs and rides by world-class adventurers,” Matt continues. “And if you can’t wait until March, we’ve got three running, biking and climbing expert nights coming up in February.”
